Rehabilitation of Villages from Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

The relocation of villages from the core area of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) is a key conservation effort aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflict, restoring habitats, and improving the living conditions of local communities. Since 2003, six villages were identified for relocation. Five have been successfully relocated:

  • Boteyzari (2007)
  • Kolsa (2007, 2022)
  • Navegaon (Ramdegi) (2013)
  • Jamni (2014)
  • Palsagaon Singru (2019)

The last remaining village, Rantalodhi, is currently in progress, with 80% of its residents relocated.

Key Facts

  • Total population relocated: 2,520
  • Remaining population in core area: 83
  • Relocation packages: Cash (INR 10L/15L) or Land (2 Ha.)
  • Total land allotted: 1,780.64 Ha
  • Land reclaimed for conservation: 910.15 Ha
  • Total budget spent: INR 1710.43 Lacs

Relocation has led to thriving wildlife habitats, increased prey populations, and improved living standards for relocated communities with better access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods. Meadows formed in old village sites now serve as ideal spaces for tigers, especially mothers with cubs.
