Weed to Wealth : Livelihoods & Wetlands Conservation Project

The “Weeds to Wealth” project by Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) is a unique initiative combining women empowerment with wetland conservation.
Purpose
- Generate sustainable livelihoods for local women
- Restore wetland ecosystems by removing invasive weeds
- Reduce human-wildlife conflict and forest dependency
How it Works :
- Women from buffer villages are selected for the program
- One-month training in:
- Identifying invasive weeds
- Safe removal techniques
- Participants are employed for eco-restoration of wetlands
Impact So Far :
- Phase 1 (2022–23): 35 women from Chandrapur buffer range
- Phase 2 (2024–25): 50 women actively involved
- Women earn livelihoods while contributing to biodiversity protection

- Boosts financial independence for rural women
- Improves wetland health and habitat quality for native species
- Encourages coexistence between communities and wildlife
- Tackles climate resilience and ecosystem restoration
